Strawberry

Strawberries (Fragaria vesca) have ancient origins, most of the earliest varieties were small, hard, and inedible. In ancient Greece, for example, strawberries grew wild. The Romans... didn’t pay much attention to the fruit either, though they believed it symbolized the love goddess Venus on account of its shape and color. A few healers during this century prescribed strawberries to treat a range of ailments from fainting, liver ailments, to bad breath.

The strawberry is an aggregate accessory fruit, meaning that the fleshy part is derived not from the plant's ovaries but from the receptacle that holds the ovaries. Each apparent "seed" (achene) on the outside of the fruit is actually one of the ovaries of the flower with a seed inside it.
Strawberry is an important fruit crop of India and its commercial production is possible in temperate and subtropical areas of the country. Strawberries grown on the hilly slopes of Mahabaleshwar accounts for about 85 percent of the total strawberry production of India.
